The rapid rise in urban density in cities like Chicago at the end of the nineteenth century produced nostalgia for the countryside of men of wealth from business\, industry\, and finance. Gentlemen Farmers built beautiful homes designed by well known architects of the time and made their large farms into showplaces. This presentation recalls the heyday of the Gentleman Farmer in DuPage County and focuses on examples of country estates in Lisle\, Wheaton\, and Hinsdale.
